The Generali subsidiary Europ Assistance has been an investor in Pflegix for three years. Now it owns the majority of the start-up.

Europ Assistance has acquired a majority stake in Pflegix in a capital increase. The Generali subsidiary has been working with the care start-up since 2019 and has also been an investor since then. Existing investor Thomas Wötzel and Pflegix founder and Head of Technology Andreas Helget also participated in the financing round.

There is also a change at the top of the start-up: co-founder and previous Managing Director Tim Kahrmann is leaving Pflegix after six years. The new Managing Director will be Thomas Wötzel. The 51-year-old investor has been part of the start-up's management team since January of this year.

Andreas Helget and Tim Kahrmann founded Pflegix in 2016 as an online marketplace for care, support and everyday help. The platform places care professionals, everyday helpers and domestic help with people in need of help, such as senior citizens. According to the start-up's own information, its network now includes more than 20,000 certified helpers.

"I am delighted that Europ Assistance has decided to acquire a majority stake," says future Pflegix Managing Director Thomas Wötzel. "Despite numerous offers of advice, relief, support, care and nursing, it is sometimes very difficult for family carers to organize a well-functioning care network. In future, we would like to jointly offer a platform for the numerous regional services in order to make these services easily accessible, coordinate them and develop their quality."
