The Spanish HR tech company Factorial has completed a Series D financing of 150 million US dollars and is now valued at 2.5 billion US dollars. The round is led by General Catalyst, which is joining Factorial as a direct shareholder for the first time. In addition to General Catalyst, existing investors such as Atomico and Four Rivers are also participating.

With the new valuation, Factorial is now one of the most valuable AI scale-ups in Europe and one of the top 20 highest valued start-ups in the European Union.

More than 700 million US dollars for the next growth phase

Particularly noteworthy: in parallel to the equity investment, General Catalyst is providing a further 540 million US dollars via its Customer Value Fund (CVF). This gives Factorial a total of more than 700 million US dollars in committed growth capital. The model allows for aggressive sales and marketing investments without additional dilution for existing shareholders.

Factorial is thus pursuing an unusual path in the European start-up landscape: growth should continue to be achieved with high capital efficiency instead of being financed by high losses.

From HR tool to AI-based workforce operations platform

In recent years, the company has evolved from a traditional HR software to a comprehensive platform for business processes. According to the company, more than 16,000 companies in over 90 countries now use Factorial's solutions for HR, finance and IT processes.

With the new financing round, the company aims to further expand its position as an AI-first platform. The focus is on the new "Factorial One" platform, which is based on an agent-based AI model. Instead of relying on hundreds of specialized AI agents, Factorial takes a different approach:

  • One AI agent represents the organization and its policies.
  • A second agent supports the individual employees in their daily tasks.

The aim is to automate business processes beyond HR to a greater extent and establish the platform as a central infrastructure for company processes.

Germany becomes the most important growth market

A significant proportion of the capital flows to Germany. Factorial describes the German market as the most important international growth region outside of Spain.

As a visible sign of this strategy, the company opens a new office in Munich and plans extensive recruitment in the areas of

  • Sales
  • Customer Success
  • Product
  • Marketing
  • Engineering

Germany is already one of the company's fastest growing markets. This position is to be further expanded through additional local teams, stronger compliance expertise and German-language product development. France, Italy and Portugal are also the focus of expansion.

AI is becoming the central operating system for companies

For investors, Factorial is an example of how European software companies are making the transition from traditional SaaS software to AI-native platforms.

While many providers are only integrating AI as an additional function, Factorial is transforming its entire product architecture. The company is relying on intelligent agents to independently organize business processes, prepare decisions and take on operational tasks in the future.
