Fintech Pliant launches first corporate credit card with carbon offsets

The CO2 emissions of business trips will be completely offset via the new credit card. This should not cost the companies any money.
The Berlin-based fintech Pliant is offering its customers a new credit card: "Anyone who pays for travel expenses with the Pliant credit card in the future can automatically neutralize the CO2 emissions," says Malte Rau, CEO and co-founder of Pliant. The feature can either be activated in the app or is automatically activated with a new "Pliant Earth Credit Card".
Pliant says it offers the highest cashbacks in the market. Credit card companies make revenue by charging money to vendors at checkout. Some financial service providers pass on part of this revenue to customers in the form of a cashback. Pliant now calculates the CO2 emissions of each trip and how much to offset, and pays for the offsets from the cashbacks. "Companies with high marketing expenses and not such a high travel volume, still get higher cashbacks paid out with Pliant than elsewhere, even though their trips are offset in a climate-neutral way at the same time," promises Rau.
