Green Elephant Biotech receives mid-million amount

"Cell Screw" is the name of the cell culture technology developed by the Giessen-based start-up. It enables pharmaceutical companies to produce large quantities of drugs and vaccines more cheaply. The idea also convinced the state of Hesse.
The Beteiligungs-Managementgesellschaft Hessen has invested in Green Elephant Biotech. A consortium of business angels also participated in the pre-seed financing round. In total, the Giessen-based start-up was thus able to secure a mid-million euro amount.
With the capital, Green Elephant Biotech wants to expand its team and bring its cell culture technology called "Cell Screw" to market. The start-up's cell cultures are made of CO2-neutral materials and are produced automatically. This should enable biotech and pharmaceutical companies to produce large quantities of drugs and vaccines more cheaply. The technology will also be certified from the money raised in the financing round.
"The growing demand for adherent cell cultures requires efficient and scalable cell culture systems," says Joel Eichmann, founder and CEO of the startup. With Green Elephant Biotech's patented solution, users could generate significant efficiencies from development to production while improving their environmental footprint. The biotech originated at the Technical University of Central Hesse. In December 2021, Joel Eichmann and Felix Wollenhaupt spun off the company.
