150 female founders were up for selection in a Hamburg competition. In the end, Yesica Rios from Jobmatch.me, Madeleine von Hohenthal from Bracenet and Britta Wiebe with Vulvani came out on top. They can now all call themselves "Starter 2021".

There are still far fewer women than men founding start-ups in Germany, as Startbase's Female Founders Report also shows. One way to change this is to make role models visible. This is what Hamburg Startups has set itself the task of doing with its "Starterin Hamburg 2021" competition and has awarded female founders and their start-ups in three categories.

In the tech category, Yesica Rios from Jobmatch.me was able to convince. The start-up brings non-academic professionals together with employers.

In the Commerce category, Madeleine von Hohenthal won with her start-up Bracenet, which makes new products such as dog leashes and bracelets from old fishing nets, which make up a large part of the plastic pollution in the oceans.

The third winner just launched her startup earlier this year: Britta Wiebe educates about menstruation, sexuality and female health with her educational platform Vulvani in order to de-taboo these topics.
