It is set to be the largest in Europe: Investor Klaus Hommels wants to raise one billion euros for his new fund, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Klaus Hommels is reportedly planning to launch a new fund, which is to be the largest in Europe with a volume of one billion euros. As the Swiss Handelszeitung reports, 750 million euros are to flow into start-ups in the growth phase, 70 percent of this sum into European companies. A further 250 million euros are to flow into early-stage start-ups, with Europe accounting for 100 percent.

The Handelszeitung is referring to documents presented to investors by Hommel's venture capital company Lakestar. The fund is expected to close in the first quarter of 2022 and Hommels is currently starting to collect the money. The investor has not yet confirmed the rumors to Handelszeitung.

Hommels was already aiming for one billion euros with Lakestar's last fund, but stopped at 680 million euros and closed the fund. He has doubled his team in the past year and now employs 37 people.

Lakestar is currently preparing for its first Spac IPO. The empty shell of the company is being filled by the search engine for vacation rentals Hometogo, and the company is due to be listed on the stock exchange this month.
