Laserhub apparently growing despite "crisis year

Although the year was not easy for the metalworking industry, the start-up was able to grow, according to its own statements.

Stuttgart-based start-up Laserhub looks back on an eventful year: the pandemic had taken its toll on the metalworking industry, which is particularly important for the start-up. In addition, the company had embarked on a strategic consolidation. Despite all the challenges, however, Laserhub said it was able to achieve record sales. What's more, revenue per customer increased. In December, Laserhub cracked the 100-employee mark.

"In the crisis year 2021, our platform achieved record sales and we shipped a total of over 3,000 tons of material," says co-founder Christoph Rößner. "The network of producers in Germany, France and Austria has also grown to over 80. The 100 is coming within reach here as well." In 2022, Laserhub plans to enter new country markets. Laserhub's demand had increased especially in the winter months: a Black Friday promotion had attracted many customers.

For the coming year, the company expects a steeper increase in its growth. After all, the outlook in metalworking is good, it says. In fact, the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) raised its growth forecast for 2022 from five to seven percent. The association had to lower its forecast for 2021: from ten to seven percent.

Laserhub GmbH was launched four years ago. The company claims to be gradually digitising what it sees as the "largely analogue metalworking sector". To this end, the start-up launched an automated platform for business initiation and process handling. An algorithm links customer requests with resources from producers in the Laserhub network. This should reduce both process and parts costs for procurers, as well as ordering and processing times. Producers, meanwhile, can use free manufacturing resources, which should lead to an increase in profitability. The company's customers include classic craft businesses, medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), but also Dax corporations.
