In addition to Neuer, the start-up Votebase has gained two other investors, all three of whom have taken a ten percent stake in the Munich-based company. Votebase wants to digitize elections.

Voting usually takes place in the sports hall or school next door, but the start-up Votebase wants to change that: Voting digitally, they promise, is less barrier-free, cheaper and protects the environment. The Munich-based company has now secured three investors, including national team goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Together with digital expert Marcus Diekmann and Shopware founder Stefan Hamann, the three have each acquired a ten percent stake in Votebase. The start-up remains silent about the sums involved.

"VoteBase will be a great help in countries where it is difficult or impossible for citizens to vote physically," says Neuer about the advantages that Votebase offers. Diekmann is also convinced by his investment: "It is absolutely unacceptable to me that in the digital age we still hold elections physically or by paper ballot," says Diekmann. He adds: "We believe that an app like VoteBase will change the voting process and drastically increase voter turnout."

The founders of Votebase, Payman Supervizer and Maximilian Pieters, have spent two years laying the technological foundations for their offering. After all, elections are a highly sensitive topic and data protection and security are essential. The app is based on blockchain technology and uses decentralized ledger technology. A technology specially developed by Votebase called "Blackbox" is intended to enable the anonymization process while simultaneously determining the user's eligibility to vote. "The app is now ready to be rolled out and marketed. We want our app to be in use for the next regional and local elections in Germany," says Supervizer.
