The start-up focuses on the development of modern marine propulsion systems.

Meyer Neptun Engineering, a start-up of the Meyer Group, a shipbuilding company with shipyards in Papenburg, Rostock and Turku, began operations at the beginning of the year. Eight employees are currently being trained at Meyer Neptun Engineering in Rostock. In the coming months, the team is expected to grow to more than 50 engineers.

As a center of excellence for modern shipbuilding, the Meyer startup will develop climate-friendly propulsion systems for ships and sustainable solutions for existing fleets, research vessels and offshore facilities. "Meyer Neptun Engineering is a start-up where the employees also help shape the structure of the company. At the same time, we have the security of already having projects within the Meyer Group that will provide engineering work in the years to come," says Meyer Neptune Engineering Managing Director Manfred Müller-Fahrenholz.

The newly founded company chose Rostock as its location because of its proximity to the Neptun shipyard, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the University of Rostock. There is also a large network of medium-sized partner companies and maritime knowledge in the region.
