The British deep tech company MintNeuro has closed a $5 million funding round. The round was led by Odyssey Ventures. Other investors include JSK Investments, 33East, and Alumni Ventures. The spin-off from Imperial College London develops specialized semiconductors for neurotechnology, including brain implants and wearable medical devices. MintNeuro plans to use the capital to advance commercialization and, in particular, expand its presence in the U.S.

In addition to the new investors, existing backers such as Empirical Ventures and Jumpspace Ventures are also participating in the funding round. The round thus brings together investors from Europe and the United States with a focus on deep tech, medical technology, and early-stage financing.

For MintNeuro, this funding round marks the next step on its journey from a research project to a commercial semiconductor provider. The company is already supplying functional chips to development partners and has signed its first commercial agreements.

Specialized Semiconductors for Neurotechnology

MintNeuro is developing a modular semiconductor platform for devices that detect and process electrical signals from the nervous system or deliver targeted electrical impulses.

Such technologies form the basis for various neurotechnology applications. These include, for example, implantable systems for electrical stimulation as well as wearable devices for monitoring and analyzing neural signals.

The technical requirements differ significantly from those of conventional electronics. Low power consumption, compact dimensions, high signal quality, and reliable operation are particularly important, especially for implants.

Developing suitable chips therefore poses a major challenge for manufacturers of neurotechnological devices.

MintNeuro aims to bridge this gap with a specialized semiconductor platform. Instead of having to develop a completely new chip architecture for each new device, manufacturers should be able to rely on existing technical components.

This could shorten development times and facilitate the integration of new functions.

From Research Project to Commercial Supplier

MintNeuro emerged from Imperial College London and is headquartered in London. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Dorian Haci.

According to the company, functional chips are already in use by development partners. Several manufacturers of neurotechnology devices and research teams are testing the technology or integrating it into their systems.

Among the partners mentioned are Motif Neurotech and Amber Therapeutics.

The collaboration with Motif Neurotech is particularly significant. This year, MintNeuro signed a multi-year agreement to supply semiconductors for a minimally invasive neurostimulator.

The system developed by Motif is initially intended for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression.

According to the company, this marks MintNeuro’s first long-term commercial supply contract. The company does not disclose details regarding the order volume, the agreed-upon quantities, or revenue.

Potential Applications for Neurological Disorders

Neurotechnological devices are being developed for various medical applications. These include, among others, systems for treating Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, or depression, as well as technologies related to hearing loss.

Depending on the application, such devices can record and analyze neural signals or electrically stimulate specific areas of the nervous system.

MintNeuro’s semiconductors are intended to serve as a technical foundation for the development of more compact and energy-efficient systems.

The company itself primarily develops components for device manufacturers rather than complete medical treatment systems.

This positioning as a specialized supplier enables MintNeuro to serve multiple manufacturers and various medical applications using the same technological platform.

Whether and to what extent the chips will later be used in approved medical devices, however, also depends on the further development and regulatory approval of the respective end devices.

JSK Investments Participates in the Financing Round

Among the new investors is JSK Investments SICAV from Prague. The investment fund is participating in the financing through its venture capital division.

Petra Cihlářová, Investment Director at JSK Investments, sees the technical implementation in particular as a decisive factor in the investment decision.

MintNeuro already has functional chips, an experienced development team, and its first long-term commercial contract. The company has thus laid the groundwork for further market expansion.

Simona Kijonková, Chair of the Board of Directors and Chief Investment Officer at JSK Investments, also highlights the technology’s potential for medical care.

From the investor’s perspective, specialized semiconductors could help accelerate the transition of neurotechnological developments from research to practical application.

Expansion into the U.S. Planned

With the additional $5 million, MintNeuro intends to bring its products to market more aggressively and expand the delivery of pre-production chips to development partners.

Another focus is on expanding operations in the United States, where the company is already collaborating with partners in the neurotechnology sector.

JSK Investments is expected to not only provide financial support to MintNeuro but also contribute contacts and expertise from the European and American healthcare and technology markets.

CEO Dorian Haci sees the new investor’s international network in particular as a key asset for the next phase of commercial growth.

Semiconductors as the Foundation of New Medical Technology

With its modular chip platform, MintNeuro is positioning itself at a key intersection between semiconductor development and medical technology.

While manufacturers of neurotechnology devices are working on new diagnostic and treatment options, the London-based company is focusing on the hardware required for these applications.

The completed funding round is now intended to help build a scalable supply business based on initial development projects and supply agreements.

With functional chips, several development partners, and a multi-year supply contract, MintNeuro says it has already taken its first steps toward commercialization. The next challenge is to expand production and attract additional device manufacturers as long-term customers.
