Sustainability start-up Tracks is bought out

Ulm-based Transporeon acquires Berlin-based start-up that measures CO2 emissions of transport companies.

Berlin-based startup Tracks is being acquired by Transporeon. According to the operator of a transportation management platform Logistics Today expand its CO2 measurement portfolio with the buyout, providing insight into emissions along the supply chain. The purchase price of the deal remains unknown.

Tracks was founded in 2018 by Jakob Muus and operates a platform through which shippers, freight forwarders and logistics service providers can check the CO2 emissions of their vehicles. This is because the industry is responsible for six percent of European CO2 emissions in a year. Tracks collects emissions data directly at the point of origin and uses AI-based analysis and forecasting tools to do so.

Transporeon now wants to use this knowledge. This is because the Ulm-based company already positioned itself more strongly in the direction of sustainability at the beginning of the year and launched its own carbon visibility solution on the market. Since 2021, Transporeon has also been cooperating with EcoTransIT, a provider specializing in the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Logistik-heute, Transporeon CEO Stephan Sieber is particularly looking forward to Tracks' expertise "in primary data and their AI-based analytics capabilities," which would complement its existing carbon visibility solution.

Tracks CEO Jakob Muus also has high hopes for the acquisition: "The merger will enable companies around the world to achieve their sustainability goals by giving buyers and sellers of freight transportation the means and tools to become greener and more efficient."
