Sustainability start-up Tracks is bought out

The Ulm-based company Transporeon acquires the Berlin-based start-up that measures CO2 emissions from transport companies.

The Berlin-based start-up Tracks is being taken over by Transporeon. According to logistics-today the operator of a transport management platform wants to use the acquisition to expand its portfolio in terms of CO2 measurement and thus provide an insight into emissions along the supply chain. The purchase price of the deal remains unknown.

Tracks was founded in 2018 by Jakob Muus and operates a platform that shippers, freight forwarders and logistics service providers can use to check the CO2 emissions of their vehicles. This is because the industry is responsible for six percent of European CO2 emissions every year. Tracks collects emissions data directly at the point of origin and uses AI-based analysis and forecasting tools to do so.

Transporeon now wants to use this knowledge. The Ulm-based company already positioned itself more strongly in terms of sustainability at the beginning of the year and launched its own carbon visibility solution on the market. Since 2021, Transporeon has also been cooperating with EcoTransIT, a provider specializing in the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Logistik-today, Transporeon CEO Stephan Sieber is particularly looking forward to Tracks' expertise "in terms of primary data and their AI-based analysis capabilities", which would complement the existing carbon visibility solution.

Tracks CEO Jakob Muus also has high hopes for the acquisition: "The merger will enable companies around the world to achieve their sustainability goals by giving buyers and sellers of freight transportation the means and tools to become greener and more efficient."
