Neggst raises five million euros

The start-up has developed a vegan alternative to chicken eggs. Now investors are getting on board.

Berlin-based startup Neggst has raised five million euros for its vegan egg alternative. The Green Generation Fund and the family office Corecam Capital Partners are investing. Agricultural companies BayWa and RWZ and several business angels are also participating.

Verónica García-Arteaga and Patrick Deufel founded the start-up in 2021. From the yolk to the shell, the developed product is supposed to resemble a hen's egg. The vegan alternative consists of purely vegetable ingredients such as peas and is produced at a Zentis plant in Aachen. In the U.S., vegan eggs were the fastest-growing plant-based alternative category in 2021, he said. Sales in the industry increased by 42 percent, he said. Whether it will be similar in Germany remains to be seen. The egg alternative is scheduled to enter the market in the fourth quarter of this year.

"There will be no way around the use of innovative protein sources in the long term, also from a sustainability perspective," says Christoph Kempkes, CEO of RWZ. "We judge Neggst to be very promising in this respect."
