The start-up has developed a vegan alternative to chicken eggs. Now investors are getting on board.

The Berlin start-up Neggst has raised five million euros for its vegan egg alternative. The Green Generation Fund and the family office Corecam Capital Partners are investing. The agricultural companies BayWa and RWZ and several business angels are also participating.

Verónica García-Arteaga and Patrick Deufel founded the start-up in 2021. From the yolk to the shell, the developed product is designed to resemble a hen's egg. The vegan alternative consists of purely plant-based ingredients such as peas and is produced at a Zentis plant in Aachen. In the USA, vegan eggs were the fastest-growing plant-based alternative category in 2021. Sales in the sector increased by 42 percent. It remains to be seen whether things will be similar in Germany. The market entry for the egg alternative is planned for the fourth quarter of this year.

"There will be no way around the use of innovative protein sources in the long term, even from a sustainability perspective," says Christoph Kempkes, CEO of RWZ. "We consider Neggst to be very promising in this respect."
