NRW wants to better promote scale-ups

The state wants to support up to 20 companies this year.
North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister of Economic Affairs Andreas Pinkwart (FDP) has announced that the state is working on a program for start-ups at an advanced stage ("scale-ups"). Ten to 20 start-ups could be funded for two years from as early as September.
The state is providing 4.5 million euros for this. The tender for a scaling program is currently underway, said Pinkwart in the App Clubhouse in an interview with editors of the Rheinische Post.
According to a study commissioned by the ministry, NRW is lagging behind in the development of larger tech start-ups. According to the study, the probability of a start-up from NRW receiving a valuation of 100 million US dollars or more is significantly lower than in other European and North American regions. The new funding program is intended to provide start-ups with better support in scaling up.
