Plusdental expands to Spain

Exclusive: The Berlin-based start-up produces dental splints and is represented in seven countries so far. Now Plusdental is expanding into the eighth region and investing a double-digit million sum.
Plusdental is expanding into Spain and plans to invest a total of ten million euros. This would mark the Berlin-based start-up's eighth market expansion just a few years after its founding. Constantin Bisanz, David Khalil, Peter Baumgart and Lukas Brosseder founded the start-up in 2017 under the name Sunshine Smile. The start-up later rebranded itself and is now part of the Straumann medical group.
The start-up makes clear dental trays and said it cooperated with around 200 dental practices in the process. Customers have an impression of their dentition taken at the practices, which then goes to Plusdental. The startup then makes a clear dental splint designed to straighten adults' teeth permanently. Using an app, patients can digitally follow the steps from making an appointment to monitoring their progress.
The start-up opened a pop-up store in Spain back in February and has been active there ever since. Plusdental is currently looking for larger premises for its team. There is also no lack of plans. Managing director Eva-Maria Meijnen says: "Our goal is to continue scaling quickly in one of the largest markets for aligner treatments and thus consistently substantiate our claim to market leadership in Europe."
In May 2020, Plusdental already raised €32 million in a financing round. The money came from Ping An from China, among others, and also from Holtzbrinck Ventures and Lakestar.
