Primo Raises $8 Million for Autonomous AI Agents
The IT startup Primo has closed an $8 million funding round. The round was led by Headline and Global Founders Capital. The company plans to use the capital to further develop its AI agents and drive expansion in Europe and the U.S. Primo is developing a platform that consolidates companies’ core IT processes into a single system. In the future, AI agents built on this platform will not only provide information but will also be able to perform IT tasks independently.
One platform instead of many IT tools
Primo is aimed specifically at companies with 50 to 1,000 employees. Their IT infrastructure often consists of a multitude of specialized systems: devices are managed via mobile device management, identities and access rights via other applications, SaaS licenses via separate tools, and support requests via help desk systems.
Primo aims to consolidate these processes onto a single platform. Device management, access rights, SaaS applications, hardware procurement, and IT support are all based on a unified data model that is linked to the company’s HR data.
According to the company, more than 400 companies in ten countries now rely on the platform.
AI Agents Are Set to Handle IT Tasks on Their Own
This unified infrastructure now forms the foundation for the next phase of development. Primo plans to deploy AI agents capable of handling entire IT processes autonomously.
The company distinguishes this approach from AI copilots, which operate only within individual applications. For example, an AI assistant in a help desk might be able to formulate a response to an access request but does not necessarily have the necessary permissions and information to actually set up the access.
Primo’s agents, on the other hand, are designed to access information from various IT departments and then carry out actions on their own.
Context is key here: Which employee is making the request, what is their position, what device are they using, and which applications are they authorized to access?
Agents Are Granted Real Authority
However, the more autonomously AI agents act, the greater the security requirements become. An agent that manages access rights or changes device configurations is granted far-reaching permissions within the company’s IT infrastructure.
That’s why Primo relies on policies that companies can define themselves. These policies determine which actions an agent is allowed to perform independently and when a human must approve the decision.
Sensitive operations, such as deleting a device or revoking critical access rights, require human approval by default, unless a company specifies otherwise.
All agent actions are also logged and should be verifiable afterward. If an error occurs during a multi-step process, the agent should stop the process in a controlled manner.
IT Teams Should Transition from Operators to Architects
Primo does not view AI agents primarily as replacements for IT staff. Rather, the goal is to automate repetitive tasks that place a heavy burden on small IT teams in particular.
Onboarding new employees, access requests, support tickets, and compliance checks can take up a large portion of the workday. By automating such processes, IT professionals should be able to focus more on security, infrastructure, and strategic tasks.
According to the company, the role of the IT team is thus shifting from the operational execution of individual tasks to defining and controlling the rules by which agents operate.
$8 Million for Europe and the U.S.
With the additional $8 million, Primo now plans to expand the functionality of its AI agents and deploy them at more companies. In addition to its European home market, expansion into the U.S. is a particular priority.
With more than 400 customers, Primo already has an established base for rolling out the new features.
A key factor will be how reliably companies can actually delegate far-reaching IT tasks to autonomous systems. After all, the more systems an agent is allowed to control, the greater both its automation potential and the potential consequences of erroneous actions. Primo’s combination of a centralized IT infrastructure, clear guidelines, and human approvals is designed to address precisely this tension.
