Quantum-Systems receives AUD 90 million

The Australian Army is to rely on state-of-the-art eVTOL technology from Quantum-Systems. Two new contracts totaling AUD 90 million strengthen national defense and boost Queensland's local economy
July 15, 2024, Moorpark, California - Quantum-Systems Inc, a subsidiary of Quantum Systems US and a provider of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) solutions for aerial reconnaissance, has been awarded two contracts by the Australian Government. These contracts, under the DEF129 SUAS program, have a total value of AUD 90 million.
The contracts were recently signed in Brisbane, Queensland. They include a procurement contract for the supply of Vector/Scorpion 2-in-1 eVTOL systems (Small Uncrewed Aerial Systems, SUAS) and a support contract for training, maintenance, engineering, supply and logistics. Delivery of the systems will begin in April 2025 and support will run until 2031.
Supporting the local economy
Quantum-Systems Australia, which is based in Redbank, Queensland, will carry out much of the work and supply locally. This promotes the local economy and particularly supports Indigenous businesses, small and medium-sized enterprises and veterans' employment initiatives. The company opened a 22,755 square foot manufacturing facility in March 2024. This underlines Quantum-Systems' long-term commitment to Australia and its dedication to developing and nurturing Australian industrial capacity.
Over the next five years, Quantum-Systems Australia plans to create up to 50 new jobs in engineering, manufacturing and administration to support business growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
Aerial reconnaissance for situational awareness
The Vector 2-in-1 eVTOL UAS provides real-time, high-resolution video for surveillance and reconnaissance missions. It is a portable solution that is operational in just three minutes and can take off and land in confined spaces without additional tools or equipment. Alternatively, it can be configured as a Scorpion multicopter by removing the wings and tail and attaching a separate set of booms and propellers.
The Vector systems are designed to provide improved situational awareness and increased protection for the Australian Army's combat forces. This investment by the Australian Government demonstrates confidence in Quantum-Systems' capabilities and their importance to national security and technological advancement.
Quantum-Systems Australia emphasizes that these contracts will not only help strengthen national defence capabilities, but will also bring significant economic benefits to the local community. By working closely with local partners and creating new jobs, the region should benefit in the long term.
Blueprint for Germany?
Cooperation with Quantum-Systems, as is now taking place in Australia, could also be of great interest to Germany. By using eVTOL drones and comprehensive support services, the Bundeswehr could significantly improve its capabilities in the areas of surveillance and reconnaissance. In addition, such a partnership would strengthen the domestic defense technology sector, create jobs and further expand Germany's technological sovereignty. In view of the current security policy challenges, this would be an important step towards modernizing the national defence capability and making it future-proof.
