RobCo secures 39 million euros from Lightspeed

Lightspeed Venture Partners invests 39 million euros in RobCo, the expert in modular robot automation for SMEs. The financing will be used for expansion and product development.

Munich - The Munich-based company RobCo, a specialist in robot automation solutions for SMEs, has gained the venture capital firm Lightspeed Venture Partners as an investor. In a current financing round (Series B), a total of 39 million euros will flow into the development and expansion of the company.

Lightspeed's financing round was led with the participation of other investors, including Sequoia Capital, Kindred Capital and Promus Ventures. The Series B brings the total investment volume for RobCo to over 55 million euros.

Modular robot hardware kits

RobCo, founded in 2020 by three scientists from the Technical University of Munich, focuses on modular robot hardware kits for various applications in medium-sized manufacturing companies. Thanks to the RobCo Studio platform, these enable flexible, intuitive assembly and modification of robot applications. Robots can be configured and managed remotely via a digital twin, enabling plug-and-play use without complex programming.

RobCo's solutions aim to make it easier for medium-sized industrial companies to get started with automation and the transformation to Industry 4.0. According to Martin Matern, Plant Manager Lüneburg at DE-VAU-GE Gesundkostwerk Deutschland GmbH, a comprehensive RobCo automation solution in the area of palletizing in particular enables companies to counteract the ongoing shortage of skilled workers and save costs at the same time.

Alex Schmitt, Partner at Lightspeed, emphasizes the importance of RobCo for small and medium-sized companies, as high costs and complexity have made the use of robotics difficult up to now. The support from Lightspeed in the form of a 39 million euro financing round shows that RobCo is on the right track, says Roman Hölzl, CEO and co-founder of RobCo.
