Sendcloud receives 150 million euros

The Munich-based start-up has raised 150 million euros in its Series C financing round and plans to hire 250 new employees within the next twelve months.

Via Sendcloud, more than 23,000 merchants have so far used the opportunity to offer many parcel services simultaneously for their customers. The Munich-based company promises a "multi-carrier platform" and is now raising 150 million euros with its concept. The Series C financing round is led by Softbank Vision Fund 2, with US-French private equity firm L Catterton and HPE Growth from Amsterdam joining in. Sendcloud wants to invest the money in the growth and expansion of the company. To achieve this, the company plans to increase its team from the current 400 employees to 650 within a year.

"At a time when consumers around the world want to choose where, when and how they want to receive a package, leading online retailers rely on Sendcloud to drive their logistics process," says Sendcloud founder Rob van den Heuvel. "We look forward to working with Softbank and L Catterton." Through Sendcloud, e-commerce merchants can connect directly with all parcel services, allowing customers to choose based on their own preference. Today, Gelato, Rosefield and Subdued, for example, use the Munich-based platform, according to Sendcloud.

The start-up has conquered the European market since its founding in 2012 and can now be found in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium and Austria. The founders are Rob van den Heuvel, Bas Smeulders and Sabi Tolou. In 2014, Sendcloud received its first funding of €150,000 from business angels, and today the Munich-based company is winning over larger venture capitalists. "Sendcloud's scalable, intuitive, and highly localized platform is pioneering the ability to enable complex shipping processes for online retailers across Europe," says L Catterton partner Christopher North.
