SPiNE secures EUR 3 million for digital infrastructure for the energy transition
The Munich-based clean energy tech start-up SPiNE has raised €3 million in growth capital in a second round of financing. The round is led by BayBG Venture Capital and the Smart Energy Innovation Fund of Energie 360°. Existing investors VERBUND X Ventures, Bayern Kapital, Scrape Ventures and Superangels are also involved. The capital will be used to expand the platform, scale the business and build up the team in technology, sales and customer service.
Digital foundation for a complex energy system
With the increasing decentralization of the energy supply, the complexity of the systems is increasing significantly. In future, millions of systems will have to be networked and controlled in real time. SPiNE addresses this problem with an open, manufacturer-independent platform that integrates various players in the energy industry and enables secure, grid-compliant control.
The solution connects energy suppliers, installers, grid operators, OEMs and HEMS systems and processes energy data in real time. This enables companies to develop new business models, optimize costs and efficiently implement regulatory requirements.
Smart meters and grid management
A key driver for the market is the expansion of smart metering systems: Around 28 million smart meter gateways are expected in Germany by 2032, a large proportion of which will have control requirements. SPiNE is positioning itself here with a platform that combines grid control, flexibility management and data processing.
The company also offers a network management system for monitoring and controlling smart meter gateways and other devices. SPiNE thus supports metering point operators in particular with a scalable rollout.
Focus on growth and expansion
SPiNE intends to use the current financing to further expand its market position. The aim is to connect more than 20,000 households via its own platform by 2027. Germany serves as the initial market, with expansion into other European countries planned.
