Zentis acquires stake in food start-up Dörrwerk

The jam manufacturer from Aachen wants to sharpen its sustainable profile. This is not the first investment in this area.

Zentis is investing in Berlin-based start-up Dörrwerk. The money comes from the subsidiary Zentis Ventures, which was founded in 2019 for the investments of the fruit processor from Aachen. There is no information about the size of the investment. "The involvement with Dörrwerk offers us the opportunity to take a fresh and more unconventional look at the topic of sustainability," says Zentis CEO Norbert Weichele. "At the same time, we can use the development expertise to transform process-related components into new, sustainable products." Zentis Ventures already invested in Haferkater in early April.

Dörrwerk was founded in 2014 by Zubin Farahani. A year later, Jonas Bieber joined the start-up. Dörrwerk exclusively processes fruits and vegetables that otherwise would not have ended up in regular sales due to aesthetic flaws. Under the brand names Dörrwerk and Rettergut, the start-up produces snacks, soups, chocolate and soft drinks, among other things.
