Cellbox Solutions Completes Series A Financing of Five Million Euros
Cellbox Solutions has announced the final closing of its Series A financing round. The company, founded in 2017, will receive a total of five million euros. Cellbox Solutions had already closed an initial funding tranche of approximately 3.5 million euros in March 2026. With this latest closing, the total volume of the round has increased by an additional 1.5 million euros. New investors include members of Baltic Business Angels Invest GmbH, a Canadian family office, and an unnamed investor with experience in pharmaceutical logistics. Existing investors NRW.BANK and Fraunhofer Venture also participated in the financing. The first closing was led by the investment platform Companisto. Details regarding the company’s valuation and the exact distribution of equity stakes were not disclosed. Cellbox Solutions plans to use the fresh capital to advance the commercialization of its technology and expand its offerings for customers in the fields of research, biotechnology, and cell therapy.
Living cells require special transport conditions
Cellbox Solutions develops technologies for the transport of sensitive biological materials. These include living cells, tissues, organoids, and other materials that must be transported under controlled physiological conditions. While many biological samples can be refrigerated or frozen for storage and shipping, this is not possible for certain live cell materials or is unsuitable for the specific application. Such materials require a stable environment during transport that preserves their biological properties as reliably as possible. This is where the concept of “warm-chain logistics” comes into play. In contrast to the traditional cold chain, materials are transported under controlled temperatures and, where necessary, at a defined CO₂ concentration. This is particularly relevant for applications in cell therapy, biomedical research, and the development of novel drugs. Cellbox Solutions aims to provide a technical infrastructure that enables the transport of sensitive materials between laboratories, research institutions, and other locations.
Mobile Incubators for Ground and Air Transport
The company’s technological foundation is built on the Cellbox Go and Cellbox Shipper products. These are mobile incubator systems that create a controlled environment for living biological materials during transport. According to the manufacturer, temperature and CO₂ levels can be individually adjusted. This ensures that the materials remain exposed to conditions that are as consistent as possible during transport. The systems are designed for both ground and air transport. Cellbox Solutions is already deploying the technology internationally in research projects and cell therapy applications. The company also points to a regulatory documentation framework that includes Drug Master Files for the Cellbox product family. Such documentation can play a role in the regulatory evaluation of manufacturing and transport processes. However, it should not be equated with blanket approval for all medical applications.
More Than 400 Cellbox Systems on the Market
According to the company, there are now more than 400 Cellbox systems on the market. The technology is used internationally for research, clinical, and cell therapy applications. The company did not disclose how many customers are using the systems or how the installed base is distributed across individual regions. The latest financing announcement also does not include information on revenue, profitability, or the number of employees. However, with its existing installed base, Cellbox Solutions has a foundation to expand its offerings beyond the sale or provision of individual transport devices. In the future, the company plans to provide customers with greater support through additional services throughout the entire transport process.
From Transport Device to Integrated Logistics Solution
A key focus of the company’s future development is the expansion of its business model. Cellbox Solutions plans to combine its mobile incubators more closely with rental and transportation services in the future. This will be complemented by recurring services such as monitoring transport conditions, managing device fleets, and coordinating individual shipments. This is intended to transform the existing technology platform into a more comprehensive offering for physiological logistics. For customers, this could mean that they not only procure the necessary transport devices but also receive additional organizational and technical services from a single source. The company expects this to result in longer-term customer relationships and a more scalable service model. Recurring service revenue, in particular, could shift the revenue structure away from a predominantly product-based business. No specific figure has been provided regarding the share these services are expected to account for in future revenue.
Partnerships with Logistics Companies Planned
For its international expansion, Cellbox Solutions is increasingly relying on collaboration with specialized logistics service providers. The technology is to be integrated with existing transport networks to enable the transport of sensitive biological materials over longer distances under controlled conditions. The company is continuing to expand its operations in Europe, Asia, and North America. Strategic partnerships are intended to help increase the reach of the services offered. In the international transport of biological materials in particular, transport planning, monitoring, and compliance with regulatory requirements are just as crucial as the technical equipment. Cellbox Solutions aims to integrate these various elements more closely in the future. No specific new partnerships or planned regional locations were announced in connection with the Series A funding round.
Founder Kathrin Adlkofer Aims to Accelerate Growth
Cellbox Solutions was founded in 2017 and is led by founder and CEO Prof. Dr. Kathrin Adlkofer. She views the completed funding round as the foundation for further developing the existing technology platform into a more comprehensive logistics offering. In recent years, the company has established the technical, product-related, and regulatory prerequisites for the controlled transport of live biological materials. Now, the goal is to expand commercial operations more aggressively. Dr. Bernd Muehlenweg, Chief Business Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Cellbox Solutions, also views additional rental and service offerings as a key component of the growth strategy. By combining transport technology, monitoring, and complementary logistics services, the company aims to build long-term customer relationships. The Series A financing is intended to help market the existing technology more widely on an international scale and establish recurring revenue models.
Growing Demand in Research and Cell Therapy
With its offerings, Cellbox Solutions addresses a specialized area of life sciences logistics. The development of new cell therapies, complex biological drugs, and three-dimensional cell models places high demands on the transport of sensitive materials. Changes in transport conditions can affect the quality and usability of living cell samples in particular. Technologies for controlled transport are therefore intended to help create reproducible conditions across different research and production sites. For Cellbox Solutions, further growth potential lies in combining its existing device platform with additional services. With five million euros from the recently completed Series A funding round and more than 400 systems on the market, the company states that it has laid the groundwork for its next phase of expansion. Whether this will develop into a sustainably scalable logistics business will depend, in particular, on the demand for integrated services and the expansion of international partnerships.
