Bettercard launches smart corporate card

The Hamburg-based fintech is now cooperating with the banking license provider Solarisbank to issue its new debit card. The launch apparently comes a year later than planned.

Already at the end of 2019, Martin Bleich and Hinnerk Rott founded their fintech Bettercard. They wanted to develop a corporate credit card that is suitable for companies of all sizes and maturity levels. This includes an integrated bonus points program: points are automatically collected with every transaction, which can be redeemed for cashbacks, vouchers or as a donation.

Now, the startup has launched a debit card in collaboration with Solarisbank. According to information from Finance Forward it should actually have been ready last year. But the start-up relied on Wirecard at the time, probably transferring money to the scandal group the day before its insolvency.

Bettercard promises businesses can sign up within 15 minutes with little effort. The low-cost terms allowed each employee to have their own card. Per card, companies can assign permissions and budgets individually and track transactions in real time. Digital spend management features would also simplify administrative and accounting processes.

"Our product is inexpensive, eliminates the need to constantly pass cards around and complex accounting, and you earn bonus points at the same time," says Hinnerk Rott, co-founder and co-CEO of the startup. Bettercard now offers three card variants: a virtual card, the classic model and a premium variant. The card variants differ in price and individual additional services. Bettercard started with the classic Visa Business Card, which customers can currently still use for zero euros per month, according to the start-up.
