Bitpanda raises more than 260 million US dollars

According to the Vienna-based fintech, it is now worth 4.1 billion US dollars. The round was led by Valar Ventures.
The Austrian fintech Bitpanda has raised a total of 263 million US dollars in a Series C financing round. This increases the valuation of the Viennese unicorn to a total of 4.1 billion US dollars. According to the company, it was previously valued at 1.2 billion US dollars, meaning that the fintech would have more than tripled its valuation as a result of the financing round.
The round was led by Valar Ventures, the VC of Peter Thiel, the billionaire US-American of German origin. Thiel previously co-founded the current payment giant Paypal with Elon Musk and was later the first external investor to put money into Facebook. LeadBlock Partners, Jump Capital, Alan Howard and REDO ventures have also invested. The Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) has yet to approve the deal.
In addition to the financing round, there is also personnel news from Bitpanda. According to the company, Lindsay Ross, formerly of Adyen, Irina Scarlat, formerly of Revolut, João Luís, formerly of Farfetch, and Michael Keskerides, formerly of N26, have joined the company in various positions.
Eric Demuth, Paul Klanschek and Christian Tummer founded the start-up in Vienna in 2014. Bitpanda was originally launched as a platform for people to trade cryptocurrency. Users can now also trade other asset classes, including shares, ETFs and precious metals. The fintech is headquartered in Vienna, but the start-up has offices across Europe and plans to open more in the future.
