Enerkite wants to generate electricity with flying kites

The novel product has already undergone a test phase. It is supposed to generate more energy than a wind turbine, the start-up claims.

The start-up Enerkite is launching a flying kite on the market that is supposed to generate more energy than a wind turbine. According to T3N , the start-up has already completed an initial test phase, and now the company's product from Kleinmachnow (Brandenburg) is actually set to launch soon.

Unlike a wind turbine, the flying kite does not simply stand in the air, but is supposed to fly eight-shaped paths. According to the start-up, the force of the wind pulls the kite along the ropes of the fully automatic ground station. The cable pull causes a drum to rotate, which a generator then converts into electricity. Once the flying dragon has reached its final height, it is pulled back down and the game starts all over again.

The hopes that the start-up is raising with its invention are high. That's because the higher position of the flying kite means it wants to pick up wind at heights of 200 to 300 meters, which the startup says are more powerful than at the height of a normal wind turbine. According to T3N , this leads to a greater yield of energy. As a result, the flying kites are said to deliver twice the yield of wind turbines while using much less raw materials because there is no need for a concrete structure on the ground.

Enerkite has already been able to collect funding in the past. In April 2021, the Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg (ILB) gave the start-up a grant of 3.4 million euros under the so-called ProFIT program. ProFIT is intended to increase Brandenburg's innovative strength.
