Engel & Völkers Commercial acquires stake in Sedainow

The start-up wants to make the real estate sector more ecological. Engel & Völkers is now joining as a strategic investor.

Engel & Völkers Commercial has become a strategic investor in Sedainow. The Berlin-based start-up has developed a data management platform that can be used to analyze the ESG risks of buildings. Based on the assessment, property owners could gain better access to financing. How much money the real estate group is investing in the start-up remains unclear for the time being.

The start-up founded by Kaspar Neftel states that the real estate sector in Germany accounts for around 30 percent of emissions and 40 percent of energy use. "Making houses and apartments as energy-efficient as possible is the order of the day," says Christian Walter, CEO of Sedainow. "Because without a sustainable real estate industry, the climate targets are at risk of failing."

The software developed by the start-up in 2022 not only analyzes the ESG risks of buildings, but also derives improvement measures. This would not only make the building sector more sustainable, but also bring financial benefits. The first joint project between Engel & Völkers and Sedainow is due to start in October. The project aims to give owners of residential and commercial buildings the opportunity to identify the CO2 risks of their properties.
