Engel & Völkers Commercial acquires a stake in Sedainow

The start-up wants to make the real estate sector more ecological. Now Engel & Völkers is joining as a strategic investor.

Engel & Völkers Commercial is participating in Sedainow as a strategic investor. The Berlin-based start-up has developed a data management platform that can be used to analyze the ESG risks of buildings. Based on the assessment, property owners could gain better access to financing. How much money the real estate group is putting into the start-up remains unclear for now.

The startup, founded by Kaspar Neftel, says the real estate sector in Germany accounts for about 30 percent of emissions and 40 percent of energy use. "Making houses and apartments as energy-efficient as possible represents the need of the hour," says Christian Walter, CEO of Sedainow. "Because without a sustainable real estate industry, climate goals are in danger of failing."

The startup's 2022 software not only analyzes the ESG risks of buildings, but also derives improvement measures. This would not only make the building sector more sustainable, but also bring financial benefits. The first joint project between Engel & Völkers and Sedainow is scheduled to start in October. The project will enable owners of residential and commercial buildings to identify CO2 risks of their properties.
