Entrepreneurship World Cup returns to Riyadh as startups from 151 countries compete for $1 million

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, September 2, 2024 - Saudi Arabia is increasingly establishing itself as a global center for investment and entrepreneurship, attracting international founders, fostering partnerships and helping businesses grow. As part of this development, the Kingdom is hosting the final round of the Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC), one of the largest and most comprehensive pitch competitions in the world.

The final rounds of the EWC will take place during Biban Forum 24, the leading forum for startups, entrepreneurship and SMEs in Saudi Arabia. The forum will be held from November 5 to 9 at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center under the theme "Global Place for Opportunity". Participants from 151 countries will compete for cash prizes totaling 1 million dollars and valuable networking and mentoring opportunities.

Platform for competitive startups

Launched in 2019 by the Global Entrepreneurship Network and Saudi Arabia's Misk Foundation, the Entrepreneurship World Cup has reached over 400,000 entrepreneurs since its inception. The competition provides a platform for up-and-coming start-ups to present themselves to international investors and make valuable connections. Since its inception, more than 4 million dollars in prize money has been awarded.

Last year, 100 startups from 53 countries competed against each other at Biban Forum 23. Notable was the victory of WhiteHelmet, the first Saudi Arabian startup to win the top prize of 300,000 dollars. These successes underline the growing influence of the competition on the global start-up scene and the importance of Saudi Arabia as a venue.

Promotion of start-ups compared to the DACH region

Entrepreneurship is the backbone of our economy and we are proud to promote positive change not only in Saudi Arabia, but globally. We provide the entrepreneurs of tomorrow with the tools they need to create an economically successful future.

Sami Ibrahim Alhussaini, Director of the General Authority for SMEs

Biban Forum 24 will provide an ideal backdrop for the final rounds of the EWC, where the innovative spirit and creativity of the participating start-ups will take center stage. With a grand prize of 1 million dollars in cash, access to capital and a variety of support measures, the competition offers participants a unique opportunity to realize their visions.

Saudi Arabia is strategically positioning itself for the future with this competition and is providing an attractive incentive for startups with the prize money. Even though there are also excellent events and competitions in the DACH region, money remains a decisive factor. The sum may seem small compared to many pre-seed rounds, but it is tempting for many founders and motivates them to take up the challenge
