Fox E-Mobility to build e-city runabout by 2023

Mia 2.0 is supposed to weigh only 900 kilograms and cost 16,000 euros. A first version of the car failed early on.

The Munich-based e-car start-up Fox E-Mobility has announced a second model. Starting in 2023, the city runabout called "Mia 2.0" is expected to hit the streets. The model builds on its 2012 predecessor. The first Mia failed after just 1,600 vehicles were built.

Fox E-Mobility wants to build small e-cars for the city that are not too expensive and therefore suitable for young families, craftsmen and beginners. The announced model is expected to cost around 16,000 euros and have a range of 200 kilometers. "Ten years ago, with the visionary design of the first Mia, we already provided a conceptual as well as design response to upcoming mobility requirements," says Murat Günak, designer of the car. "The new design now fulfils this promise in a highly topical way and is a visible signal for consistent sustainability, functionality, agility and likeability."

Production of the e-car is scheduled to begin next year. At 900 kilograms, the car will be comparatively light for an electric car. Therefore, the start-up can also install smaller and cheaper batteries. The components will not be sourced from China, but from Europe, in order to avoid customs duties and long transport routes.

The original manufacturer of the first model, the German-French Mia Electric, went bankrupt in 2014. The shell company was retained and taken over by Fox Automotive (previously Catinum).
