The Berlin-based fintech company mika has raised six million euros in a seed funding round. The round is led by European investor Smedvig Ventures. Other participants include Wecken & Cie., studiVZ co-founders Dennis Bemmann and Michael Brehm, limango founder Johannes Ditterich, and Martina Pfeifer of encourageventures. Existing investors Keen Venture Partners and Dutch Founders Fund are increasing their stakes. The capital will be used to fuel further growth and the development of the AI system.

AI-Native Alternative to Tax Accounting Firms

mika doesn’t just want to digitize existing processes at tax firms. Instead, the startup is building accounting and tax processes for small businesses from the ground up around artificial intelligence. The service is aimed specifically at small GmbHs and UGs. For these companies, mika handles, among other things, day-to-day bookkeeping, advance sales tax returns, annual financial statements, and tax returns.

At its core is an AI-native general ledger. Depending on the task, different AI models are used, combined with in-house developed rules and domain expertise. The software processes receipts and payments, performs allocations and postings, and is designed to explain to users what each transaction means for their business.

People remain part of the system

mika does not completely do away with human expertise. Trained accountants within the company review results and handle cases that require additional human intervention. Individual tax consulting is not currently part of the service offering. For such matters, mika collaborates with licensed tax advisors from a partner network.

In addition, the company relies on an AI chatbot. For example, users can upload letters from the tax office and have their content—as well as the necessary next steps—explained to them. Users should also be able to ask questions about their own company’s financial figures directly through mika. Using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), data can also be integrated into AI assistants such as ChatGPT or Claude.

More than 750 companies use mika

The company has already demonstrated significant commercial traction. At the beginning of the year, around 400 GmbHs and UGs were using the service; according to the company, that number has now grown to more than 750. mika initially gained traction primarily among digitally-oriented service providers such as agencies and consulting firms. It has since attracted customers from sectors such as SaaS, real estate, and e-commerce. Most recently, the startup has also secured clients from the retail and skilled trades sectors.

According to mika, revenue has been growing by more than 20 percent per month for several months. In July 2026, the company surpassed the one-million-euro mark in annual revenue.

Smedvig Ventures Leads Seed Round

With Smedvig Ventures, mika has secured a new lead investor. The London-based VC invests across Europe in B2B technology companies in the seed and Series A stages.

Behind mika are CEO Agnieszka Walorska, CFO Luke Linnekuhle, and CTO Henry Müssemann. Linnekuhle previously helped build the finance division at Oceansapart. Müssemann served as Head of Engineering at the software company Freezingdata, which was later sold.

SaaS for Accounting and Taxes

mika is thus positioning itself in a growing category of AI-native service companies. Rather than providing software that helps people perform existing services more efficiently, the technology is intended to increasingly take over parts of the service itself.

The German tax and accounting market, in particular, offers an interesting yet challenging environment for this due to its complexity. At the same time, mika must demonstrate that the combination of AI automation and human oversight can scale reliably even as the customer base grows. The growth figures to date provide initial indications of this. With the additional six million euros, mika can now work toward building AI-powered accounting for small corporations into a more broadly scalable alternative to traditional structures.
