Noxtua Raises More Than 100 Million Euros in Series C Funding
The Berlin-based legal tech company Noxtua has closed a Series C funding round totaling more than 100 million euros. As part of the transaction, C.H.BECK will become the new majority shareholder of the AI company. According to the company, this marks the largest investment in the history of the legal publisher, which was founded in 1763. MANZ, one of Austria’s leading legal publishers, is also taking a stake in Noxtua for the first time. The capital is to be used primarily for the further development of legal AI and expansion into other European markets.
C.H.BECK Acquires Majority Stake in Noxtua
C.H.BECK had already participated as the lead investor in Noxtua’s Series B round in April 2025. With this new financing round, the publisher is now significantly deepening its commitment and acquiring a majority stake in the Berlin-based scale-up.
MANZ is also expanding its existing operational collaboration with Noxtua through an investment. The Austrian specialist publisher has been working with the company on the MANZ-Noxtua Legal AI Workspace since 2025.
According to the company, the new ownership structure is intended to enable Noxtua to plan for the longer term and support its pan-European expansion.
Publishing Content Becomes a Strategic Factor
Behind these investments lies a trend that is becoming increasingly relevant for the legal AI market: in addition to powerful AI models, high-quality and reliable legal data is becoming a key competitive factor. Noxtua is therefore focusing on partnerships with European legal publishers and using their curated content for jurisdiction-specific legal AI workspaces.
In addition to C.H.BECK and MANZ, partners include Helbing Lichtenhahn as well as other specialized legal publishers in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden, and Bulgaria. The collaboration with C.H.BECK is particularly extensive. According to the company, its beck-online database comprises more than 60 million documents from various areas of law. Together, the companies launched the Beck-Noxtua Legal AI Workspace on the German market in 2025.
More than 30,000 users
Noxtua emerged from research conducted at the University of Oxford and Imperial College London and was founded in 2017. The first version of what is now known as legal AI was launched in 2024. The company now employs around 100 people at six European locations in Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Zagreb, Munich, and Fribourg. According to the company, more than 30,000 users access the platform.
Noxtua covers various areas of legal text processing. These include research, the analysis of complex legal issues, and the drafting of documents. CEO and founder Leif-Nissen Lundbæk sees the combination of the company’s proprietary technology and exclusive content from European legal publishers as the foundation for further expansion.
Investor Structure Is Being Reorganized
With the Series C round, Noxtua’s shareholder structure is also changing significantly. The previous investors—Global Brain Corporation, KDDI Open Innovation Fund, CMS, Dentons, and Dominik Schiener—are exiting as part of the transaction.
The announcement does not specify how the shares will be transferred or what portion of the more than 100 million euros will be directly invested in Noxtua as growth capital versus used to acquire existing shares. However, CMS and Dentons are expected to remain as anchor clients of the company. CMS co-founded Noxtua in 2024 to develop legal AI specifically tailored to the needs of professional legal users.
European Publishers Position Themselves in the AI Race
The Series C round is thus more than just traditional growth financing. C.H.BECK and MANZ are increasingly integrating their legal content with the technology of a specialized AI provider while simultaneously securing direct influence over its future development.
For Noxtua, this results in a strategic positioning vis-à-vis general AI models and international LegalTech providers: Access to curated and, in some cases, exclusive legal content can become a key differentiator, particularly in terms of source quality and jurisdiction-specific work.
With more than 100 million euros in funding and C.H.BECK as the majority shareholder, Noxtua now has substantial financial and content-related backing for its European expansion. At the same time, the company’s success increasingly hinges on whether the combination of publishing expertise, exclusive legal data, and specialized AI can establish itself in the long term as a distinct European model in the international legal AI market.
