Gorillas stops expansion in the USA

For the time being, the delivery service will not enter a second market in the United States in addition to New York. A deal with competitor Doordash recently fell through due to growth plans.
The German food delivery service Gorillas has suspended its expansion in the USA for the time being. As Gründerszene reports, the start-up first wants to expand its location in New York and not venture into other cities for the time being. So far, the Berlin-based company has only been active in the Bushwick district, where it launched at the end of May.
The decision is also likely to result in local redundancies. How many and which employees are affected by this measure was not initially disclosed. Gorillas had recently scrapped a deal with its US competitor Doordash, which wanted to join Gorillas, partly due to its US expansion plans.
Instead, the delivery service is now receiving money from Delivery Hero, which led a Series C financing round last week. It is unclear whether the canceled plans for North America are related to this.
