Gorillas stops expansion in the USA

For the time being, the delivery service will not open up a second market in the United States besides New York. A deal with competitor Doordash recently fell through because of its growth plans.
German grocery delivery service Gorillas has suspended its expansion in the U.S. for now. As Gründerszene reported, the startup wants to expand its New York location first and won't venture into other cities for now. So far, the Berlin-based company has only been active in the Bushwick neighborhood there, where they launched at the end of May.
In the course of the decision, there will probably also be layoffs locally. How many and which employees are affected by this measure was not initially disclosed. Gorillas had recently let a deal fall through with its local competitor Doordash, who wanted to join Gorillas, partly due to its US expansion plans.
Instead, the delivery service is now getting money from Delivery Hero, which led a Series C funding round last week. It's unclear if the cashed-in plans for North America are related.
