Klarna buys Stocard

Swedish fintech Klarna is buying Mannheim-based start-up Stocard.

The Swedish fintech acquires the Mannheim-based start-up for more than 100 million euros. It is not the first takeover this year.

Klarna is in takeover fever: the fintech only bought the social shopping platform Hero at the beginning of July. Now Klarna is said to have taken over the Mannheim-based start-up Stocard, as reported by Finance Forward. According to Handelsblatt , Klarna is said to have paid 113 million euros for the deal.

Stocard offers its 60 million users worldwide a bundling of loyalty cards in an app in which it provides information about discounts and promotions. An integrated payment function has been available for several years. Investors in the Mannheim-based company included Carsten Maschmeyer with his Alstin fund and High-Tech Gründerfonds. According to Finance Forward, 31 million US dollars have flowed into Stocard to date.

According to Klarna, it is currently valued at over 45 billion US dollars and is used by 90 million customers. Founded in 2005, the fintech completed a financing round of 650 million US dollars in September 2020.
