NetBird raises 4 million euros
Marc Nemitz | 03.12.2024From Berlin to the world. How NetBird is redefining network security with open source and a community-driven vision.
Berlin, December 3, 2024 - NetBird, a Berlin-based open source startup for network security solutions, has raised €4 million in a seed funding round. The round was led by InReach Ventures and Nauta Capital, with participation from Antler and funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. NetBird plans to use the funding to drive forward its product development, expand its team and extend its global presence.
Zero Trust: a paradigm shift in network security
With the rise of hybrid working models, the concept of Zero Trust network security is becoming increasingly important. Instead of relying on traditional protection mechanisms, Zero Trust follows the philosophy of "never trust, always verify" and ensures continuous authentication of users and devices. While large providers market the topic intensively, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are left out due to the high costs and complexity.
This is precisely where NetBird comes in: The aim is to make advanced network security accessible to organizations of all sizes.
From Berlin to the global community
Founded by Misha Bragin and Maycon Santos, NetBird builds on strong expertise in network security and open source development. The core technology includes a business VPN solution based on WireGuard with simple configuration and access controls. This allows even non-technical users to implement network security efficiently.
Since its launch on GitHub in 2021, NetBird has won over thousands of companies worldwide. The open source community plays a key role in further development.

NetBird intends to use the new capital not only to strengthen its technological base, but also to drive global growth. "Our goal is to make network security accessible to every organization," says CEO Misha Bragin.
