Mass layoffs at McMakler
Janina Gerhardt | 26.07.2022The startup has laid off at least 90 HR and finance employees, according to media reports.
A few days after a big company celebration, McMakler apparently announced some layoffs, as Gründerszene and German startups report. Of the approximately 1,000 employees, at least 90 employees from the HR and finance departments are said to be affected. The startup is also said to have not renewed expiring contracts and cut intern positions. Insiders would speak of about 120 people affected.
"McMakler is a growth company, but we also pay attention to cost control. Currently, we are experiencing a changing situation in the macroeconomic environment, which we need to consider early on," a company spokeswoman told Gründerszene and confirms the layoffs. Internally, the layoffs were justified by the tight real estate market.
McMakler is a hybrid broker active in Germany, Austria and France. Founded in 2015 by Felix Jahn, the company employs more than 450 of its own real estate agents in around 30 locations. For 2021, McMakler had still presented good figures. Sales amounted to around 92 million euros in the previous year, which meant that they had increased by 70 percent compared to 2020.
