Prior Labs receives 9 million euros

AI for tables on the rise! Prior Labs launches TabPFN, a new model that enables companies to analyze data in seconds instead of hours.
Freiburg, February 5, 2025 - AI startup Prior Labs has secured €9 million in pre-seed funding to improve how companies process tabular data. The funding round is led by Balderton Capital, with participation from XTX Ventures, Hector Foundation, Atlantic Labs and Galion.exe. Prominent figures from the AI world also invested, including Thomas Wolf (Hugging Face), Peter Sarlin (Silo AI) and Robin Rombach (Black Forest Labs). The company intends to use the capital to further develop its AI model "TabPFN" and give companies access to efficient, automated data analysis.
AI for tables: untapped potential
While generative AI has already made great progress in the processing of text and images, the area of structured data has so far remained largely untouched. Yet spreadsheets are the backbone of many sectors - from finance to healthcare to industry. This is where Prior Labs comes in: With TabPFN, the company offers a solution that makes table and database analysis faster and more precise.
Tabular data is the foundation of the economy, but AI-supported analyses in this area are still in their infancy. Prior Labs is changing that by making machine learning accessible to spreadsheet companies
James Wise, Partner at Balderton Capital
According to Prior Labs, TabPFN can deliver more accurate results in just 2.8 seconds than other models, which can take up to four hours. The model has been trained on 130 million synthetic data sets and can be applied directly to new data without additional training.
Possible applications in business and research
TabPFN is particularly interesting for companies that work with limited or difficult-to-access data - for example in medicine, climate research or the financial sector. The model also offers advantages for time series analyses: TabPFN ranks first in independent benchmarks and outperforms models from Google and Amazon. Prior Labs also offers an API interface that allows companies to seamlessly integrate the AI technology into existing systems.
Many companies have large amounts of valuable data but are unable to use it efficiently. Our model changes that - with faster and more accurate analysis that is ready to use immediately.
Frank Hutter, CEO Prior Labs
Visionary founding team with scientific excellence
Prior Labs was founded by Frank Hutter, an expert in AutoML, Noah Hollmann, a computer scientist with experience at Google and BCG, and Sauraj Gambhir, an investor and M&A expert. The team is supported by Bernhard Schölkopf, an AI researcher and director at the ELLIS Institute, and entrepreneur Alex Diehl, who has already helped build several successful technology companies. Together, they are pursuing the goal of making the analysis of tabular data more efficient and accessible with AI.
A potential game changer for data analysis?
With the €9 million funding, Prior Labs aims to further improve its AI model and make it accessible to companies worldwide. The combination of higher accuracy, faster processing and easier integration could permanently change the way companies work with data.
