The European defense tech industry is experiencing its largest funding round to date: Munich-based Quantum Systems has closed a Series D funding round of 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, bringing its valuation to approximately eight billion U.S. dollars, according to the company. The round ranks among the largest private financings ever secured by a European defense technology company.

The funding was led by Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus, and Advent. Numerous international institutional investors, including BOND, Fidelity Management & Research, Wellington Management, A.P. Moller Holding, and Elephant Lake Ventures, also participated. Existing investors such as Balderton and HV Capital remain on board.

From Drone Manufacturer to “Neo Prime”

With this new funding, Quantum Systems is pursuing a significantly broader goal than simply expanding individual drone systems. The company aims to establish itself as a so-called “Neo Prime”—a new generation of defense company that develops and integrates software-defined, autonomous systems across various operational domains.

At the heart of this strategy is the MOSAIC UXS platform, which will be used in the future to interconnect autonomous systems in the air, on land, and at sea. Instead of individual unmanned systems, Quantum Systems is thus focusing on an interoperable ecosystem of autonomous platforms.

“The future is unmanned,” explains co-founder and co-CEO Florian Seibel. He notes that modern defense will be shaped by autonomous systems capable of collaborating in real time across various domains.

Valuation More Than Doubled

According to the company, the current funding round has more than doubled Quantum Systems’ valuation. The key factors behind this were strong revenue growth, the profitability already achieved, and the company’s strategic positioning in the field of autonomous defense systems.

As a result, Quantum Systems is now among the highest-valued private defense tech companies in Europe and is increasingly positioning itself as a European alternative to major American defense technology providers.

Expansion of the European Defense Industry

In parallel with the funding round, Quantum Systems and Airbus Defence and Space have further deepened their strategic collaboration. Both companies aim to combine their expertise in software, artificial intelligence, and system architecture to accelerate the development of sovereign European defense capabilities.

The collaboration highlights a fundamental shift in the European defense industry: large, established companies are increasingly positioning themselves as platform and ecosystem providers, while specialized technology companies are developing innovative autonomous systems.

From Ukraine to Australia

The company’s operational scaling is already well advanced. According to Quantum Systems, the company’s systems carried out more than 19,000 missions in Ukraine alone in 2025.

At the same time, the company has significantly expanded its production and development sites in recent years and is now represented in Germany, Ukraine, the U.S., Australia, Romania, the U.K., and the Baltic states, among other locations. The new funding will now primarily be used to expand production capacity, stabilize supply chains, support international expansion, and further develop software and AI technologies.

Europe’s Defense Tech Moment?

The financing of Quantum Systems exemplifies a structural shift in the European capital market. Defense technologies, which for many years were hardly investable for institutional investors, are increasingly evolving into a distinct deep-tech segment with significant growth potential.

The combination of geopolitical shifts, technological disruption, and rising defense budgets is creating a market that barely existed in Europe just a few years ago. With a valuation of eight billion U.S. dollars, a global presence, and a war chest worth billions, Quantum Systems is now pursuing nothing less than the creation of a new European defense and technology conglomerate for the age of autonomous systems.
