Deutscher Apotheker Verlag has acquired a stake in the Berlin-based startup Tox-help. The company has developed a digital advisory service specializing in animal poisonings, combining a specialized veterinary toxicology database with an AI-powered assistance system. The specialist publisher’s investment is intended to further expand the service offering and more closely integrate pharmaceutical expertise with Tox-help’s technology. The size of the investment was not disclosed.

The partnership is therefore about more than just capital. Deutscher Apotheker Verlag is contributing its own databases and specialized publications in the field of veterinary pharmacy. These include, in particular, the “Lila Liste,” a reference work for veterinary drugs in Germany.

Tox-help, in turn, aims to harness this expertise for a digital application where, in an emergency, one thing matters above all else: speed.

Specialized Assistance in Cases of Suspected Poisoning

Poisonous plants, medications, food, or household chemicals can quickly lead to a medical emergency in animals. According to the company, there has been a lack of a central, animal-specific point of contact for such poisoning cases in the DACH region. Tox-help aims to fill this gap and offer round-the-clock support. The app combines AI algorithms with a specialized veterinary toxicology database to enable a rapid risk assessment in cases of suspected poisoning.

The company was founded by Dr. Franziska Thal, who also serves as Tox-help’s CEO.

Tox-help thus covers two different situations. While pet owners initially need quick guidance, medical professionals use the system to access more detailed information for further treatment.
