Wasteer extends mandate for EEW Group

Wasteer strengthens its collaboration with EEW and deploys AI-based software solutions in 15 waste-to-energy plants to detect contaminants and optimize operations
Berlin, November 2024 - Berlin-based startup Wasteer, a provider of analytics software for waste-to-energy plants, has expanded its deployment for EEW Energy from Waste GmbH (EEW) to 15 plants and gained its first international customers. Wasteer's software solutions optimize processes in thermal waste recycling plants by using artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models to efficiently document waste streams, detect impurities at an early stage and facilitate disposition planning.
AI-based solutions for optimizing waste management
Wasteer specializes in modular software solutions that are specifically tailored to the needs of thermal waste recycling plants. The company's software enables the automated detection of impurities, calculates calorific values and emissions, creates control reports and digitizes the planning of waste recycling. By using AI and a specially developed database, these processes can be made considerably more efficient. For example, the number of plant shutdowns can be reduced by up to 30 percent and throughput increased by around two percent. The software therefore not only helps EEW to work more cost-efficiently, but also more sustainably.
Expansion in waste management through venture clienting
Wasteer successfully uses the venture clienting model, a strategy that enables start-ups to integrate their innovative technologies directly into existing companies and thus gain practical experience at an early stage. Through this form of cooperation, companies like EEW gain early access to disruptive solutions and can focus on innovations that optimize their operational processes and make them more efficient without major development effort. Wasteer's expansion demonstrates how venture clienting can pave the way for German technology start-ups to develop solutions that are specifically tailored to the needs of the waste management industry in close cooperation with leading industry players.
Wasteer has established itself in the market and impressively demonstrates that its products are efficient and marketable. This now enables us to continue to grow both in Germany and internationally.

International expansion with enfinium and other customers
In addition to the partnerships in Germany, Wasteer is now active in three European countries. For example, the start-up is working with the British energy supplier enfinium. For the Ferrybridge-2 plant in West Yorkshire, Wasteer is installing a camera system to analyze and detect impurities in the incoming waste streams in real time. This will help enfinium to identify potential problems at an early stage and take targeted operational measures to increase efficiency.
"Wasteer's AI-based solutions provide valuable insights into our waste streams and enable us to identify contaminants early and make operational decisions based on data," says Chris Bebbington, Head of Asset Management at enfinium.
