Zalando apparently wants to sell clothes in the U.S. starting in 2023

Under the name "Kangaroo", those responsible at Zalando are apparently preparing what is probably the biggest coup in the history of the still young company.
Business Insider learned about the fashion giant's US expansion from various internal sources. Zalando is said to be investing a three-digit million sum. More than 100 people are said to have worked on the "Kangaroo" project, all of whom apparently signed a non-disclosure agreement. It is said that Zalando initially wants to concentrate on the north-east of the United States and also try out new marketing strategies. However, the idea could fail due to the group's current poor financial results, writes the online portal Business Insider.
CEO Jim Freeman has worked for Amazon for a total of eight and a half years and is therefore familiar with the US market. Meanwhile, the North East is considered a high-tech hub and is home to a large number of distribution and logistics facilities. Zalando obviously has a first-class infrastructure there and customers in the cities who are also interested in the numerous European brands that the online retailer has primarily included in its range to date.
Business Insider sent a long list of questions about the "Kangaroo" project to Zalando, but the editorial team did not receive any answers. A spokeswoman said: "In recent years, we have made great progress on our growth path in Europe. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our offering, including potential new categories and regions. We believe there will also be opportunities to grow beyond the European continent in this context."
