The Berlin-based search engine start-up is all about expansion: In addition to a financing round of ten million euros, Xayn has announced its intention to penetrate the Asian region. The company is supported by three new hires in the executive suite.

In a recent Series A funding round, Berlin-based startup Xayn raises ten million euros, and also announces three new additions to its executive team. The financing round is led by Japanese investors Global Brain and KDDI, and also includes existing investors Earlybird and Iota founder Dominik Schiener. Xayn plans to use the money to further develop its app, and is also set to expand into the Asian region with a focus on Japan.

Founded in 2017, the startup has developed an app that includes a privacy-friendly AI search engine, with the algorithm acting via federated learning, which means the AI trains directly on users' devices. "In an industry where the sale of data and advertising en masse are the norm, we deliberately focus on data protection and user satisfaction," says co-founder and CEO Leif-Nissen Lundbæk, explaining what is special about Xayn.

Three newcomers will also be working on the further development in the future: Former Deutsche Bank manager Daniel von Heyl has been part of the team as CFO since the beginning of August. Effective immediately, Michael Briggs is the CGO, who in his position will continue to drive Xayn's growth strategy. Frank Pepermans will be responsible for product development in the future. The programmer has worked primarily on open source frameworks.

"With the financing round completed, it is now the ideal time to strengthen the management team and to further promote the company's growth," says co-founder Felix Hahmann about the start-up's good news.
