400,000 euros for Insellar

Insellar has secured 400,000 euros in pre-seed funding to further develop a novel brain-computer interface for the treatment of therapy-resistant depression and to build a functional prototype. The young company is supported by IBB Ventures as well as business angels and experts from the fields of neurosurgery, psychiatry and neurotechnology.

The fight against depression

Treatment-resistant depression remains one of the biggest unsolved challenges in the healthcare system. Millions of patients do not respond adequately to existing treatments, with far-reaching individual and social consequences. This is precisely where Insellar comes in, pursuing a new neurobiological approach: instead of acting systemically, the targeted stimulation of the body's own protective mechanisms in the brain is to be triggered precisely, biologically based and with few side effects.

The start-up, founded in July 2025, is developing a patented brain-computer interface that specifically modulates brain activity and could also be used for other indications such as PTSD, anxiety disorders or schizophrenia in the future. The initial aim is preclinical proof-of-concept and validation of the prototype, followed by preparations for clinical development in Europe and the USA.

We are at the beginning of a new era of biologically precise neurostimulation. Our goal is to create a new therapeutic category for patients without sufficient treatment options.
