The Cologne-based proptech intends to use the capital to further expand its own product for climate-friendly building regulation - and thus become the European market leader.

Cologne-based proptech Aedifion closes its Series A financing round with twelve million euros. Lead investors are Berlin-based World Fund, which specializes in climate tech, and technology and investment platform Beyonbuild, with participation from the family office of SAP founder family Hopp. Existing investors Bitstone Capital and Phoenix Contact Innovation Ventures are investing again in this round.

Aedifion intends to use the fresh capital to expand its own product range. The Cologne-based company aims to become the European market leader in sustainable building technology. The vision: buildings as virtual power plants that are part of a smart grid. To this end, the start-up has developed an artificial intelligence that, among other things, controls heating systems in a predictive manner. The start-up believes that if many properties were networked in this way, it would not only save money and emissions, but would also help the stability of the power grid as a whole. Customers would also be able to better regulate their building technology with their own cloud platform. The start-up puts the potential savings from this technology at ten million tons of CO2 per year.

Felix Dorner, Johannes Fütterer, Jan Henrik Ziegeldorf and Erik Brümmendorf founded Aedifion in 2017. The idea originated at a leading research institute for building technology at RWTH Aachen University.
