The financing round was led by lead investor Christian Federspiel, represented by Findus Venture. With a €3.7 million order from ESA and participation from other investors, AIRMO is well positioned to advance the monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions from space.

Munich, Germany - Climate and space technology startup Airmo has closed a €5.2 million pre-seed funding round. The funds come from space and impact investors as well as the European Space Agency. With this capital, Airmo will be able to launch its first satellite of a planned 12 into orbit and revolutionize transparency regarding greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane.

Since the last founding round, we have made significant progress in our mission. We are proud to be an official partner of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative's (OGCI) Aiming for net zero initiative

Daria Stepanova,, Co-Founder Airmo

The funding round was led significantly by Christian Federspiel, represented by Findus Venture, a renowned space investor in Europe. Other well-known investors such as Ananda Impact Ventures, Pi-Labs, E2MC and strong business angels such as Anna Alex, founder of Planetly, and Rainer Horn, a well-known name in the German space industry, also invested. Particularly noteworthy is the support of the European Space Agency (ESA), which is backing Airmo with an order volume of 3.7 million and is a close partner of the startup.

With the climate crisis on the rise, it is critical to monitor greenhouse gas emissions and take action to reduce them. The Paris Agreement set a goal of limiting global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. Achieving this goal requires accurate and reliable data on emissions, particularly of potent greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. Airmo has emerged against this backdrop as a solution to address the urgent need for transparency and accuracy in monitoring these emissions.

We are pleased to have supported Airmo from day one and look forward to working with the company as it expands.

Alan Poensgen, Partner Antler

Methane, one of the greenhouse gases for which the startup provides monitoring, is responsible for over 25 percent of global warming. Because of its structure, methane is more harmful per molecule than carbon dioxide (CO2) and remains in the atmosphere for about 20 years. Large methane leaks that go undetected for weeks or months are particularly harmful to the climate. Last summer, a superemitter event was detected near Turkmenistan, releasing 427 tons of methane every hour - the equivalent of France's hourly national emissions.

Airmo also has a goal of capturing every superemitter by 2030, particularly in the oil and gas industry. The company works closely with key industry players and is an official partner of the Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) Aiming for net zero methane emissions, a leading initiative to reduce emissions in the oil and gas industry.

The startup was founded by Daria Stepanova, Pavels Razmajevs, Dr. Errico Armandillo and Harriet von Kügelgen. The founding team combines space and climate expertise to revolutionize the monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions from space. The goal is to improve understanding of emissions and develop more targeted climate solutions. The company is headquartered in Weßling, just outside Munich, Germany.... Daria Stepanova is CEO, Pavels Razmajevs is COO, Dr. Errico Armandillo is CTO and Harriet von Kügelgen is CCO of the company.
