Bavaria relies on technologies from start-ups for sustainability

Bavaria's Ministers of Economic Affairs and the Environment are jointly calling for EU support in the form of subsidies to provide concrete backing for new technologies for sustainable change in Bavaria.

The EU Commission wants to invest one quadrillion euros in the restructuring of the economy as part of the Green Deal. However, the exact distribution of the money is still open. The State of Bavaria is now staking a claim and demanding that funds from the Green Deal flow directly into the Free State and its Climate Package II: "The aim is an innovation and start-up boom in climate technology", explained Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger and Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber. Specifically, it's also about the start-up scene: "A start-up fund and incubators for young companies specializing in innovative climate technologies, as well as research facilities, would be sensible targets for funding."

By promoting new technologies such as green fuels or hydrogen filling stations, Bavaria should not only be driven forward economically, the ministers also hope to create new jobs. A working group called Cleantech for Aviation already exists, further programs are to follow - also with European support: "Project-related compensation payments should encourage to conquer the markets with great technologies and to take economic risks. The EU Commission must allow such instruments. We are prepared to test pilot applications together with Bavarian industry", said Aiwanger.

For Bavaria, the specific issue is water management, which requires "a speedy implementation of the EU hydrogen strategy" in order to "make the best possible use of the potential of green hydrogen", says the Minister of Economic Affairs and calls for a renewal of European state aid law.
