Education start-ups call for round table with politicians

In an open letter, digital education providers turn to the ministers of education and to Education Minister Anja Karliczek (CDU). They offer their help for learning backlogs.

Leading start-ups from the tutoring and education sector are calling on the Conference of Education Ministers and the Federal Minister for Research and Education Anja Karliczek (CDU) to hold a round table. This should take place as soon as possible, preferably in May, the statement

The federal government and education ministers are expected to explain their ideas on how to catch up with students who are behind in their learning. "We explain how we could support here in the short term," the start-ups write.

The letter is signed by 15 organizations, including the Federal Association of Digital Education and several learning and tutoring startups, including Lingoda, Sofatutor and Cleverly. They describe themselves as an initiative of German digital education companies. Addressed is the open letter to Federal Education Minister Anja Karliczek (CDU) and the Secretary General of the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs Udo Michallik (CDU).

"The learning gaps among students caused by the pandemic are enormous and your effort to counteract them with the funding program is very welcome," the initiators write in the letter. They added that the digital education companies are ready to do their bit. "We think that a support programme for learning assistance should be structured in such a way that all important areas, synchronous, such as classic tutoring as well as personal support/social pedagogical assistance, as well as asynchronous assistance, such as online learning aids for closing knowledge gaps in all subjects, are covered."
