2.1 million euros for OurMind to combat burnout in the healthcare sector
The strain on the healthcare system has been mounting for years. More bureaucracy, more paperwork, longer waiting lists, and ever-shrinking staff are pushing many doctors to their limits. The Dutch startup OurMind is tackling this issue and has now raised new capital to do so.
The company has closed a funding round of 2.1 million euros. The round is led by impact investor 4impact Capital. Numerous general practitioners and specialists are also participating. Last year alone, more than 80 doctors had already invested in the company.
AI as Support, Not a Replacement
The challenges in healthcare cannot be solved by making medical staff work even harder. Instead, the startup is developing an AI platform that supports doctors before, during, and after patient interactions. The goal is to reduce administrative tasks and create more time for actual patient care.
"We’re not building technology that replaces people, but technology that takes the burden off them"
From AI writing assistant to digital colleague
It all started with "Notes," an AI-powered medical assistant that automatically converts conversations during treatment into structured documentation. But the founders realized early on that the real problem is much bigger.
Documentation is considered one of the main drivers of burnout in the healthcare sector. Added to this are the preparation of appointments, administrative processes, coordination with colleagues, and communication with patients. Numerous conversations with doctors therefore gave rise to the vision of a digital colleague that goes far beyond mere documentation.
The next phase: Agent-based AI for everyday clinical practice
With the fresh capital, OurMind aims to further develop its platform into a comprehensive AI system for medical workflows.
Plans include, among other things:
- AI-powered decision support based on medical guidelines
- Support for triage and prioritization processes
- Improved patient communication
- Automated preparation of appointments
- Voice-controlled interaction with electronic health records
- Support for referrals, requests, and billing
In the long term, the platform is intended to support all administrative processes related to patient care.
Investors Focus on Social Impact
For lead investor 4impact Capital, the combination of technological innovation and social benefit was particularly decisive. The fund manages approximately 68 million euros and invests specifically in software companies that address challenges in areas such as sustainability, digitalization, and social infrastructure. OurMind is the fund’s first HealthTech investment. The financing is also supported by Invest-NL and the European Union as part of the InvestEU Fund.
A central component of the strategy is close collaboration with medical professionals. Instead of developing solutions on the drawing board, OurMind says it works with general practitioners, specialists, and clinics from the very beginning to develop its products. This is intended to ensure that the AI systems actually meet the requirements of everyday medical practice and do not create additional complexity.
Unfortunately, still a growing market
The shortage of healthcare professionals is one of Europe’s greatest challenges. At the same time, requirements for documentation, regulation, and patient management are constantly increasing.
The company aims to create an AI infrastructure that alleviates the workload on medical staff, thereby helping to reduce burnout in the long term and keep healthcare systems functioning effectively.
