Delivery Hero does not want to pay a standard wage

The new DAX member Delivery Hero apparently does not pay collective wages and tried to prevent the establishment of works councils. There is anger from politicians.

Delivery Hero apparently has poor working conditions. Business Insider reports on the negative experiences of former employees of the company. According to the report, Delivery Hero does not pay a collectively agreed wage and the delivery platform's drivers have few rights of co-determination. In Germany, the company tried to prevent works councils from being set up. In the end, the employees had to successfully sue for their right to employee representation.

CEO Niklas Östberg told Business Insider : "There is always a way to reach an agreement. Especially through individual salary negotiations. I'm not a fan of collective wages." Members of the Bundestag are outraged and attack Östberg. Fabio de Masi (Die Linke) wrote on Twitter: "Mr. Östberg has misunderstood something. Collective bargaining is not a dessert that you order from the pizza service because you are a 'fan'. Labor has its price. I have to pay at the restaurant too!" Danyal Bayaz (The Greens) calls for collective wage agreements and compliance with sustainability criteria, especially for DAX companies. "Employee co-determination is not a 'nice to have', but a pillar of our social market economy," the Green MP told Business Insider.

The government is already planning a law to improve the co-determination rights of couriers. A corresponding key points plan has already been presented by Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) and Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD), but still has to be agreed upon by the federal cabinet and the coalition parties.
