Gorillas wants to spin off supply warehouse in Berlin

Recently, Gorillas earned criticism for the dismissal of striking employees. Now a new organization is to calm the situation in the strike stronghold Berlin.
According to reports in the Handelsblatt, the delivery service Gorillas wants to spin off the Berlin delivery warehouses next week. Shift planning, training and hiring are to be handled by independent franchisees, who are to run the warehouses as on-site managers. The move comes in response to employee strikes over the creation of shift schedules and poor accessibility to support.
"Through the new model, Gorillas is giving the teams in each warehouse more autonomy, creative freedom and flexibility, and ensuring they can make a positive contribution to their neighbourhoods," a company spokesperson told Handelsblatt.
Gorillas was founded in 2020 and delivers food within ten minutes of an order. The delivery service has repeatedly seen strikes over better working conditions. The strikers are also trying to establish a works council. So far, the company has prevented this on the grounds that it is not clear which organisational unit the works council applies to.
