Gorillas wants to spin off supply warehouse in Berlin

Gorillas was recently criticized for dismissing striking employees. Now a new organization is to calm the situation in the strike stronghold of Berlin.
According to reports in the Handelsblatt newspaper, the delivery service Gorillas wants to outsource the Berlin delivery warehouses next week. Shift planning, training and recruitment are to be taken over by independent franchisees, who will run the warehouses as local managers. The move comes in response to strikes by employees who criticized the creation of shift schedules and the poor availability of support.
"With the new model, Gorillas is giving the teams in the respective warehouses more autonomy, creative freedom and flexibility and ensuring that they can make a positive contribution to their neighborhoods," a company spokesperson told Handelsblatt.
Gorillas was founded in 2020 and delivers food within ten minutes of ordering. The delivery service has repeatedly been the subject of strikes for better working conditions. The strikers are also trying to set up a works council. So far, the company has prevented this on the grounds that it is not clear which organizational unit the works council applies to.
