Demecan supplies cannabis to federal government

In 2019, the start-up was commissioned by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices to cultivate medicinal cannabis.
Demecan has delivered medicinal cannabis from its own cultivation to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices for the first time. The delivery contained over 100 kilograms of dried cannabis flowers.
The medical use of cannabis has been approved in Germany since 2017. In the same year, Adrian Fischer, Cornelius Maurer and Constantin von der Groeben founded their start-up Demecan. In 2019, the start-up was the only German company to be awarded the contract for the production of medicinal cannabis for pharmacies. In summer 2020, the start-up bought a former slaughterhouse in Saxony for this purpose and converted it into a modern cannabis plantation. A total of 2,500 plants with a high THC content are currently growing in the start-up's flowering rooms. So far, the company has harvested 300 kilograms of cannabis flowers. The order from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices is initially valid for four years. Up to 660 kilograms are to be delivered to the Federal Institute every year.
"At last, you can buy cannabis from Germany in pharmacies. I am particularly pleased that many patients can be helped with this fine product and that we can improve the supply situation in this country through cultivation," says Demecan co-founder and Managing Director Adrian Fischer. Thanks to the modular structure of the plantation, it is also possible to produce considerably more at short notice.
