Enpal raises 855 million euros

The solar startup is stocking up on loans. It plans to buy more than 30,000 new solar panels, energy storage systems and charging stations.

Berlin-based solar plant unicorn Enpal raises 855 million euros just before the end of the year, as Gründerszene reported. The money comes from funds, banks and investors. These provide the outside capital in the form of interest-bearing loans. With the fresh capital, the start-up now wants to buy more than 30,000 new solar systems, energy storage units and charging stations.

It must first acquire these itself before Enpal technicians can install the systems at customers' homes. The business model of the start-up, founded in 2017, is a rental model. Customers pay a monthly fee for the plant and electricity, but save on the high purchase costs. If they use the plants for 20 years, they can buy them for one euro.

The company's goal is to generate about one billion euros in sales in a year, founder Mario Kohle told the Manager Magazine. For 2022, he accordingly expects sales of between 300 and 400 million euros.
